Somalian-American Actor.
Barkhad Abdi was born on April 10, 1985 in Mogadishu, Somalia as Barkhad Abdinasir Abdi. He is an actor, known for Captain Phillips (2013, dir. Paul Greengrass, along with Tom Hanks), Good Time (2017, dir. Bennie & Joshua Safdie), and Extortion (2017, dir. Phil Volken, alongside with Eion Bailey & Danny Glover).
For his first film, Captain Phillips, where he plays Muse, a Somalian pirate, he is Academy Award Nominee 2014 (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Oscar Nominee), among several nominations: Alliance of Women Film Journalists 2013 (Nominated EDA Award, Best Supporting Actor), Chicago Film Critics Association Awards 2013 (Nominated CFCA Award, for Best Supporting Actor and also for Most Promising Performer), Golden Globes 2014 (Nominee, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture), Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014 (Nominated, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role), Critics Choice Award 2014 (Nominated, Best Supporting Actor).

In 2014, he won in UK, the BAFTA film Award (Best Supporting role), Black Reel Awards 2014 (Won, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Motion Picture, & won Outstanding Breakthrough Performance, Male) and London Critics Circle Film Awards 2014 (Won ALFS Award, Supporting Actor of the Year).
When he was seven years old, his family moved from Somalia to Yemen to escape the civil war, then to Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA), in 1999, when he was age 14.
