Kinshasa is the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa's third biggest country and the second megalopolis of sub-Saharan Africa This film describes different groups of vulnerable people, whose lives fly below the radar of most observers of daily life in the congolese capital. The film states clearly that aspiring to a better social equallity, democracy and good governance is not an abstract concept but the very foundation of true development.

45,000 people die of malnutrition, violence or disease every month in the DRC. The civil war and its consequences have claimed almost 5.4 million victims in one of the world's richest countries in terms of natural resources. In the midst of this chaos, people get organized and form associations, seeking to reinvent small-scale solidarity. Carrying his camera himself and discarding blinkers, Mweze Ngangura films people struggling to survive. He manages to reveal rays of hope and courage in this dying country. By concentrating exclusively on marginalized and forgotten people, he allows us to see things that usually remain hidden.

By Mweze Dieudonné Ngangura (2009, 90 min., RD Congo)
