A film to describe, through words, the memories of the people who knew him, some brief images from the set of Bye bye Africa and photographs, the figure of Kalala, as he was called, Haroun's best friend and a constant presence on the sets of his films, who died of AIDS. A film-portrait in the absence of its protagonist. A film which also fearlessly tackles the subject of AIDS, still taboo in Chad.

"Sous ce nom congolais, Kalala, se cache en réalité Hissein Djibrine, mon meilleur ami, mon plus proche collaborateur. Il est mort le 22 juillet 2003 à N'djaména. Du sida… Depuis sa disparition, il me semble qu'une partie de moi s'en allée. Pourtant, même diminué, il faut bien continuer de vivre, avec cette absence/ présence de ceux qui nous ont quittés.
J'ai conçu ce film non seulement comme un journal intime filmé, mais aussi comme une enquête sur la mémoire, le cinéma, la maladie. En cela, il se veut au-delà des genres. Ni totalement un documentaire classique, et encore moins une fiction, ce film emprunte différents chemins de traverse pour trouver sa propre voie…"
