Comedy-drama set in a remote Algerian village over a 25 year period. Algeria is fighting a war of liberation against France. Two orphans, Omar and Ourida, are involved in an incestuous relationship. During the conflict, Omar leaves the village and Ourida dies in childbirth. When the war ends, Omar returns with a Russian wife and is appointed mayor of the village.
